JUNE 1, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 128/121; STATUS
Last Wednesday and Thursday were the best ever at the site across
from Air and Space.
Friday was the best week day ever at the 20th. and Constitution
site, as good as if not better than prior week ends at that site;
the site previously had been notoriously poor on week days.
Saturday through Monday were also spent at the 20th. and
Constitution site.
On Saturday I took what I thought would be twice as many handouts
as I would need. I was completely out of handouts by 3:30.
On Sunday I took 50% more than I had on Saturday - completely out
by 2:30.
Monday I took every handout I had left. Completely out before
1:00.
Thank you to everyone who made the weekend, actually the entire
past week, such a tremendous success.
I want to particularly thank the Rolling Thunder members for their
obvious sincerity and open mindedness toward the issue, my weekend
"neighbor" author Hiland Doolittle for his innate civility and
understanding of the urgency of my activity, and those in
attendance on Memorial Day, the latter being particularly and
literally "remarkably" thoughtful as my neighbor confirmed when I
mentioned it to him.
Once again, thank you all!!!

JUNE 2, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 129/122; BETRAYAL
The Vietnam Veterans feel intensely the BETRAYAL of the MIA's and POW's (missing in action and prisoners of war for our foreign readership).
They resonated with the BETRAYAL of this citizen.
They fought the fight over there.
The PonyTail is engaged in a fight here.
Your thoughtful consideration of the issue is all that is asked.
Should you find the matter a just and worthy cause, which I am confident you shall should you truly THOUGHTFULLY consider the matter, your support by contacting the BAD GUYS would be greatly appreciated.

JUNE 3, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 130/123; JESSE IN DC
Today's spontaneous message was generated upon learning minnesota governor Jesse Ventura was in Washington, DC for an appearance on Larry King Live.
The following information was quickly pulled together - formatting shall have to wait.
FROM THE CNN WEBSITE
On the June 3,1999 edition of Larry King Live:
Topic: New Book
Guest: Gov. Jesse Ventura, Author, "I Ain't Got Time to Bleed"
That isn't the question governor.
The question is, do you have time to be governor.
Being governor includes addressing "old business" of the state of minnesota.
Is not the oldest of the minnesosta old business the unlawful suspension from the practice of law of the PonyTail which occurred on Febrauary 10, 1978.
It would be beyond incredible if governor Ventura had not learned of the PonyTail Issue by one or more of the following attempts to call the matter to his attention:

JUNE 4, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 131/124; yes
YES! YES!! YES!!!
Yesterday's Daily Message included the CNN posting that governor Ventura would appear on the 6/3/99 Larry King Live program that evening.
It also listed many of the attempts I have made to contact governor Ventura.
Last night I went to the CNN building in Washington, DC.
When governor Ventura arrived I handed him a folded set of a modified version of the handouts, and identified myself as "Keith Davis, PonyTail" and asked him if we would be able to talk later when he came back from his appearance on the program.
Governor Ventura responded: "I'm not sure."
I said I would wait.
About two hours later, two members of his entourage came out of the CNN building and approached me. Initially they were a little uptight, but after I assured them my only objective was to open a line of communication for resolving the issue, we had a cordial conversation. Apparently they had made copies of the material I had handed governor Ventura, because one had a copy in his hands and they assured me that the Director of Communications for governor Ventura, John Woodley, also had a copy. They also gave me additional information for contacting the governor, and assured me I would be sent a formal response within three days of their return to minnesota.
This does not mean absolutely that the unlawfulness of the suspension shall be acknowledged and redress obtained. It is only the first step.
It does not mean we can relax. Note the use of the lower case yes on the subject line. To the contrary, our efforts must be intensified until the issue is finally successfully resolved.
I do want to thank all of you who have already contacted the governor and others on my behalf. Your efforts were acknowledged. Keep up the good work, including the recruit two others effort, and daily status inquiries directed to the governor would certainly now be appropriate.
And, let's not forget or in any way diminish the effort on the federal level, either.
Again, thank you, but keep up the good work, don't let down now!

JUNE 5, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 132/125; WHEN
When should Hitler have realized that surrender was his only honorable alternative, that to do otherwise was only to subject the remaining citizenry of Germany to needless suffering?
Was not the arming of the Hitler-Youth and sending them off to the front at the end of the war the most graphic evidence of the lunacy that can grip one who has absolute power?
Is not power the sine qua non of "those who are in control" of this society, and does not their relative anonymity give to them a form of absolute power?
And, is not power a sine qua non of elected officials?
When will those who are in control and our elected officials ...

STONEWALL: to engage in ... delaying tactics.
CONSCIENCE: the sense or consciousness of the moral goodness or
blameworthiness of one's own conduct, intentions or
character together with a feeling of obligation to do
right or be good
Notice the word moral in the latter definition.
Does not our society generally consider a moral obligation as one which goes beyond a mere legal obligation?
Is not the absolute minimum condition for one to be considered a person of conscience therefore that the person scrupulously complies with their legal obligations and goes at least one step beyond that level of compliance?
And, can we not extend this minimum condition to the society as a whole?
And if a society systematically, and methodically selectively denies members of the society the benefit of the laws of the society is that not a clearly a society without a conscience?
Is it not a depraved society?
A society which engages in stonewalling which systematically, methodically, and calculatedly deprives a member of the society of all of the essential elements of life ...

JUNE 7, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 134/127; SENSITIZE
Again, there were beau coup candidates for this Daily Message. The more I thought about a few sentence long conversation with a tourist as I left the metro Sunday morning on the way to the 20th & Constitution site, the more certain it seemed to become that prior messages about the Vietnam Veterans needed amplification.
The conversation with the tourist included a passing comment about rapport between the Veterans and myself the preceding weekend to which the tourist responded something to the effect that the Veterans had been "sufficiently RADICALIZED" ...
My antennae immediately went up. That is exactly and precisely the term of choice which pro fascist spin doctors would use.
This is not to say that the individual was pro fascist. We all are much looser, imprecise in our verbal speech than our written words, and it would greatly surprise me were even experienced writers to deny that from time to time they regret having used a particular word.
I don't think anyone other than the pro fascist crowd would say the Vietnam Verterans were RADICALS, had been RADICALIZED. Well, then, what is the proper term to describe them.
I vote for betrayed.
Just as they feel the POW's and MIA's have been betrayed, I believe their anger and frustration manifest a feeling that all who served in Vietnam have been betrayed.
They resonated with my issue not because they had been radicalized, but because they had been sufficiently sensitized to the betrayal phenomena that when an instance of betrayal of a citizen was presented to them they could respond appropriately to it.
This is the phenomena which is the essence of the PonyTail Institute for Change Mission Statement which is the preface of the pi4c Websites.
Another aspect of this matter is that there were a few exceptions. No Veteran, however, voiced a negative response. These exceptions were basically the absence of the response referred to above. I believe I understand what they were feeling. They were the same feelings I have had many, many times over the course of my 20 plus years of the PonyTail issue ordeal. My reading of those not responding was that their anger and frustration was still so active that it prevented them from responding.
I would like to share with this latter group what seems to me to be my similar experiences and unequivocally apologize to them if I did in fact anger or frustrate them.
The apparently similar anger and frustration which I experienced on many, many occasions was when individuals justified non action, non involvement on their part in resolving the PonyTail issue because what had happened to me happens to everyone and no one else was complaining so I didn't have any right to complain, either.
Right, sure, obviously, everyone knows that every U.S. citizen has been unlawfully denied the right to practice law, or if not that specifically, the right to engage in whatever their chosen profession or occupation might happen to be. (This is inevitably done with an dismissive air of superiority.)
If that was your perception of my message, that I was saying look, see this happens to the civilians, too, so you don't really have any right to complain, I'm sorry that I wasn't "sensitive" enough to perceive that and immediately communicate to you the true message.
The true message was that I was ratifying your complaint.
Your pain was not for naught. Thank you for sensitizing me.

JUNE 8, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 135/128; STATUS
Saturday was by far the most confrontational, combative day of the signage/handout activity.
Sunday was probably the best "normal" Sunday of the activity.
Sunday included at least three exceptionally meaningful exchanges.
Discretion being the better part of valor, I can comment about only one at this time.
Four visitors from another country stopped at the sign and immediately began talking among themselves. I asked if they would like me to briefly explain the matter to them. We had difficulty communicating, so I assumed they wanted me to rather than lose an opportunity. Because of the communication difficulty, I tried to explain it in the simplest terms possible. Normally I explain the "stonewalling" issue by saying they "refused to disposition" the matter. For them, I said "they wouldn't say yes, they wouldn't say no, they just wouldn't say anything". The most verbal of the four slowly, deliberately, and in measured words said "you have four yes's from _______" (the name of their country).
As he was saying that, I was talking to one of the others about the websites listed on the handouts, and the verbal one responded to this excitedly. His words rushed out: "you have, you have, you have 60 million yes's from _____", and we both just threw back our heads and roared with laughter, as did the others. There were hand shakes all around and they continued to the wall.
These spontaneous moments are literally life sustaining. Thank you all.

JUNE 9, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 136/129; UNFORTUNATELY
We have spoke frequently of fascism.
In every instance, I believe, the context of U.S. fascism has been elitism, exclusively financial and political power elitism.
Nazi fascism references have referred to the implicit social elitism of euthanasia.
To digress for the purpose of providing some context. Many of you are aware that the Daily Message is posted on a dozen plus Switchboard.com Town Message Boards. When I post the messages, I scan the board for responses to earlier Daily Messages. Some inexperienced posters post original messages which are actually a response rather than an original message so it is necessary to check all messages with a title which might relate to a Daily Message posting. One such posting turned out to in fact be an original posting, but it did get me pretty lathered up.
For a long time, a certain element of this society has viciously attacked another less fortunate element of the society. Specifically, the haves have pummeled the crap out of that group of have-nots characterized as the welfare crowd.
Yes there have been many who have abused welfare. I join in the denunciation of that segment.
On the other hand, I have never, ever, heard the welfare bashing haves so much as acknowledge that a significant part of the welfare problem may be purely a circumstance of birth.
Admitting that might be an admission that a significant part of the status of being a have may also be purely a circumstance of birth, mighten it.
End of digression.
Is not the progression of our welfare system taking us down the same exact path as that of the Nazi path which led to the euthanasia of those deemed so unproductive they were a burden to the society?
Unfortunately ...

A technological victory.
Can there not be even greater bloodless wars won on a vastly grander scale?
Would there be any need for such technological victories were a single nation to set an example which others would voluntarily devote all of their time, energy and resources seeking to emulate?
Would not such victories be diplomatic victories?
A bit Pollyannish and utopian I admit.
But, would this not be a good time to steer a course in that direction!

From the Declaration of Independence, following a list of 19 grievances or "Oppressions":
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for redress in the most humble terms. Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury.
|
A recurring statement in my writings has been the phrase "if anything, the injury was compounded", when commenting on the response of elected officials to my petitions for redress.
In the mid 80's I visited the site of the Boston Tea Party. There was a small chalk board for visitor's comments. I paused before the board for a considerable time, and then finally wrote:

JUNE 19, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 146/139; REDRESS REVISITED
Yesterday's Daily Message set forth the context within which the founding fathers used the phrase "petition the Government for a redress of grievances" when that phrase was included in the First Amendment: The Declaration of Independence. The Declaration specifically refers to petitions for redress by the colonists to King George III for a list of 19 grievances.
How important did the founding fathers consider the right to petition for redress of grievances?
The right to petition is in the First Amendment. Uno numero number one. The other rights in the First Amendment are:
- religion;
- speech;
- press;
- peaceably assemble; and,
- petition for redress of grievances.
|
Pretty impressive company that the right to petition for redress of grievances hangs out with.
Pretty shabby treatment that our courts (judicial branch); presidents (executive branch); house and senate (legislative branch); and, the media (5th estate) accord to at least certain petitions for redress of grievances.
If it isn't consistent with the fascist agenda it doesn't happen. (Reference the definition of fascism first introduced in the February 1st. Daily Message and repeated in the February 26th. and April 1st. Daily Messages and the at length discussion of defacto fascism in the April 12th. Daily Message.)

JUNE 21, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 148/141; COLLAGE
Saturday was another of those days which produced a number of "spontaneous" Daily Message subjects. The number of messages in the que is growing and thus several shall be included as a collage in a single message.
GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD: the mature couple I encountered as I rushed to the bus stop Saturday morning, 6/19. They apparently were just out for a morning walk. Thoughtfully, they had taken a plastic bag and a small wooden rod with a metal point with them. One would spear a piece of trash while the other held the plastic bag open to receive the offending object in a cooperative ballet of landscape cleansing. Only I and maybe a few others know how indebted we are to this couple for their thoughtful, and humble act. My failure to get their names was excusable as I had no time to spare if I was to catch the next bus. The bus ran a minute or so early. My failure to get their names when they stopped to examine the base portion of my sign as it leaned against the bus stop post 5 or so minutes later was inexcusable. They do have a set of my literature which has my contact information. If they read this and contact me I shall include their names in a subsequent message.
NOMINATION FOR HALL OF SHAME MEMBERSHIP (Reference the March 18th. Daily Message re the HALL OF SHAME.): the individuals who so thoughtlessly and inconsiderately discarded the trash the good citizens above picked up. Perhaps the greatest sin of their crude and boorish act is the waste of the energy and time of the good citizens above, time and energy which people of their character, integrity, and creativity would otherwise most likely be put to even better use. The difference is spending time and energy undoing a negative act instead of expending it on a positive act.
ANSWER: Saturday 6/19, a tour group of youngsters congregated in the vicinity of the "signage/handout" set-up area. Two approached me and asked me a few questions, and we had a few minutes of meaningful conversation. Eventually 6 or 7 surrounded me and the sign, virtually pinned me against the sign, and peppered me with questions. It was stimulating. It was also chaotic. One question in particular needed to be, but was not, answered when they had to dash off to catch their bus. One asked me "So, you are an enemy of the state?" The answer, in three parts: No! I AM an enemy of the fascists. I am a patriot.
Of course, if the state is a fascist state ...

Let's take another look at the First Amendment rights:
- religion;
- speech;
- press;
- peaceably assemble; and,
- petition for redress of grievances.

Freedom of the press. We certainly hear about it when their freedom is infringed upon, don't we.
And, when the media doesn't report an obviously newsworthy matter it's almost another form of stonewalling, isn't it!

JUNE 23, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 150/143; COLLECTIVE PRAVDA
If a member of this society puts their life on the line in pursuit of democratic principles, is that not newsworthy?
At an age now literally rapidly approaching only days less than 60 years, is not protein starvation for about 100 days unequivocally putting one's life on the line?
During the cold war, what would we have said had Pravda not reported a similar incident in Russia. (Period punctuation deliberate.)

Any ballyhoo and bs is newsworthy if it makes good propaganda (is consistent with the fascist agenda).
All that notwithstanding, media, I'll cut you some slack.
Any member of the non-print media which accepts either of the terms below, shall be excluded from the characterization of fascist propagandist:
1.

An unedited live interview which includes a closing

JUNE 28, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 155/138; PLEA
Occasionally a Daily Message is addressee specific, usually to one or more of the truculent bureaucrats who should have already given me relief, but has not.
First and foremost, this message in no way is meant to point a finger of blame. Please reserve judgment until after you have read the entire message. Indeed, if necessary, until after you have read the entire message, set it aside until your passions have subsided, and then re-read it.
Is not the army in Kosovo totally inadequate?
Is not what is needed in Kosovo an army of mental health care experts?
Is not the enemy in Kosovo the payback mentality?
This part of my plea is to the mental health community (MHC). To the extent you can, each and everyone of you, drop what you are doing and devote your efforts to organizing an army of mental health care experts for fighting the payback mentality in Kosovo.
Today's message is directed to every person who has occasion to read this who is not a member of the MHC. Please call this message to the attention of a member of the MHC. The number one priority on my agenda for Monday June 28th. shall be to fax this to every mental health care facility in the community in which I reside, Fairfax, Virginia.
Virtually none of us have experienced the psychic violence which those on both sides of the Kosovo dispute have endured, and my understanding is that the dispute is deep seated and goes back at least to WW II. What I am saying to everyone, in this paragraph, is what I understand to be the equivalent of the Native American philosophy of not being judgmental about others, something to the effect of not judging a person "until you have walked for three days in that person's moccasins".
Revulsion was my reaction to last nights news about the payback events in Kosovo.
Yes, I believe we should all recoil in horror. I do not believe we should be judgmental.
I also believe we should attack the cause, rather than the symptom of the problem. Let's get the people involved who can do that.
And, here at home:

JUNE 29, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 156/149; COLLAGE 2
Suffice it to say that the que'd messages must get their say too,
even if it is only a cryptic say.
LIFEBLOOD: |
time, energy and resources. They shall be guarded jealously. |
HUNGER/STARVATION: |
A hunger strike is a caloric intake shortfall. A zero |
|
caloric intake is a fast, a starvation strike. |
DIMINISHED CAPACITY: |
Diminished capacity is an inherent, albeit hopefully |
|
temporary, result of any significant hunger strike. |
LOGIC: |
One's diminished capacity during a hunger strike does not |
|
relate backwards twenty plus years. |
PRIDE: |
1. outing the fascists; and, |
|
2. the sign engineering - folks, that sucker works! |
And, the crown jewel of the que'd messages:
SOLUTION: |
The solution to the fascist element inherent in any |
|
"election selection process" form of democratic |
|
government is to replace elections with a lottery/draft |
|
selection process from a pool of qualified candidates so
large that it can not be compromised. |
Personal Notes:
1. |
The thing that really tickles my funny bone, is the likelihood that
Russia |
|
would become Democratic before the United States. I can not see
ourselves |
|
changing our beloved Constitution that radically in anything less
than 10 |
|
years. All "emerging" democracies, including Russia, can draft a
Constitution |
|
with a lottery/draft selection process in a heartbeat. |
|
|
2. |
Would not the greatest benefit from a lottery/draft selection process
be in the |
|
dregs, the residue left over? Let's say that the pool size for president
is one |
|
thousand (1000). Instead of pouring campaign funds down a
rat hole, |
|
significantly less funds would be used to train candidates and afterwards
we |
|
would have 999 statesmen left over. Over a period of time, would
that not
create a very sophisticated society!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
|
3. |
And, we would not be insulted by goofy "analysts" telling us what
it meant. |

JUNE 30, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 157/150; GUN LAP
First I want to thank all who have made their voices heard, and there are numerous indications that your voices have been heard in a significant way.
The caloric SHORTFALL is being increased daily (the calorie INTAKE decreased daily). The daily calorie INTAKE is now significantly less than 1000 calories per day which means that the daily calorie SHORTFALL is probably nominally 1500 calories per day, if not in excess of 1500 calories per day.
We are in the gun lap now, and shall be entering the final straightaway soon so let's all redouble the effort.
Mail links which make it easier to contact the bad guys have been added to the webpages. It would certainly be appropriate to make a status inquiry daily - time is of essence, and they cannot be urged to act too frequently.
My special thanks to those who are forwarding the Daily Message! I encourage all of you to do so, however, please advise me you are doing so. There have been three requests for removal from my list by persons who were not on the list. If you will just let me know that you are forwarding the DM's, I shall create a PLEASE REMOVE LIST (PRL) of those who are doing so, and then forward requests from parties not on my list to the PRL.
If this issue is resolved successfully, at a minimum, there shall be a significant commemorative memorial for all those contributing to the success.
Also, many of you can reward yourself ala the REWARD first posted in the May 7th. Daily Message and repeated here, to wit:
A $500,000.00 reward, up to a total of three such rewards, shall be paid, from proceeds received from a settlement or damage award paid to me or my estate, for information which results in a felony conviction of a perpetrator, facilitator or collaborator.
