THE BUSINESS PLOT TO OVERTHROW ROOSEVELT

In the summer of 1933, shortly after Roosevelt's "First 100 Days," America's richest businessmen were in a panic. It was clear that Roosevelt intended to conduct a massive redistribution of wealth from the rich to the poor. Roosevelt had to be stopped at all costs.

The answer was a military coup. It was to be secretly financed and organized by leading officers of the Morgan and Du Pont empires. This included some of America's richest and most famous names of the time:

Irene Du Pont - Right-wing chemical industrialist and founder of the American Liberty League, the organization assigned to execute the plot.

Grayson Murphy - Director of Goodyear, Bethlehem Steel and a group of J.P. Morgan banks.

William Doyle - Former state commander of the American Legion and a central plotter of the coup.

John Davis - Former Democratic presidential candidate and a senior attorney for J.P. Morgan.

Al Smith - Roosevelt's bitter political foe from New York. Smith was a former governor of New York and a codirector of the American Liberty League.

John J. Raskob - A high-ranking Du Pont officer and a former chairman of the Democratic Party. In later decades, Raskob would become a "Knight of Malta," a Roman Catholic Religious Order with a high percentage of CIA spies, including CIA Directors William Casey, William Colby and John McCone.

Robert Clark - One of Wall Street's richest bankers and stockbrokers.

Gerald MacGuire - Bond salesman for Clark, and a former commander of the Connecticut American Legion. MacGuire was the key recruiter to General Butler.

The plotters attempted to recruit General Smedley Butler to lead the coup. They selected him because he was a war hero who was popular with the troops. The plotters felt his good reputation was important to make the troops feel confident that they were doing the right thing by overthrowing a democratically elected president. However, this was a mistake: Butler was popular with the troops because he identified with them. That is, he was a man of the people, not the elite. When the plotters approached General Butler with their proposal to lead the coup, he pretended to go along with the plan at first, secretly deciding to betray it to Congress at the right moment.

What the businessmen proposed was dramatic: they wanted General Butler to deliver an ultimatum to Roosevelt. Roosevelt would pretend to become sick and incapacitated from his polio, and allow a newly created cabinet officer, a "Secretary of General Affairs," to run things in his stead. The secretary, of course, would be carrying out the orders of Wall Street. If Roosevelt refused, then General Butler would force him out with an army of 500,000 war veterans from the American Legion. But MacGuire assured Butler the cover story would work:

"You know the American people will swallow that. We have got the newspapers. We will start a campaign that the President's health is failing. Everyone can tell that by looking at him, and the dumb American people will fall for it in a second"

The businessmen also promised that money was no object: Clark told Butler that he would spend half his $60 million fortune to save the other half.

And what type of government would replace Roosevelt's New Deal? MacGuire was perfectly candid to Paul French, a reporter friend of General Butler's:

"We need a fascist government in this country to save the nation from the communists who want to tear it down and wreck all that we have built in America. The only men who have the patriotism to do it are the soldiers, and Smedley Butler is the ideal leader. He could organize a million men overnight."

Indeed, it turns out that MacGuire travelled to Italy to study Mussolini's fascist state, and came away mightily impressed. He wrote glowing reports back to his boss, Robert Clark, suggesting that they implement the same thing.

If this sounds too fantastic to believe, we should remember that by 1933, the crimes of fascism were still mostly in the future, and its dangers were largely unknown, even to its supporters. But in the early days, many businessmen openly admired Mussolini because he had used a strong hand to deal with labor unions, put out social unrest, and get the economy working again, if only at the point of a gun. Americans today would be appalled to learn of the many famous millionaires back then who initially admired Hitler and Mussolini: Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, John and Allen Dulles (who, besides being millionaires, would later become Eisenhower's Secretary of State and CIA Director, respectively), and, of course, everyone on the above list. They disavowed Hitler and Mussolini only after their atrocities grew to indefensible levels.

The plot fell apart when Butler went public. The general revealed the details of the coup before the McCormack-Dickstein Committee, which would later become the notorious House Un-American Activities Committee. (In the 50s, this committee would destroy the lives of hundreds of innocent Americans with its communist witch hunts.) The Committee heard the testimony of Butler and French, but failed to call in any of the coup plotters for questioning, other than MacGuire. In fact, the Committee whitewashed the public version of its final report, deleting the names of powerful businessmen whose reputations they sought to protect. The most likely reason for this response is that Wall Street had undue influence in Congress also. Even more alarming, the elite-controlled media failed to pick up on the story, and even today the incident remains little known. The elite managed to spin the story as nothing more than the rumors and hearsay of Butler and French, even though Butler was a Quaker of unimpeachable honesty and integrity. Butler, appalled by the cover-up, went on national radio to denounce it, but with little success.

Butler was not vindicated until 1967, when journalist John Spivak uncovered the Committee's internal, secret report. It clearly confirmed Butler's story:

In the last few weeks of the committee's life it received evidence showing that certain persons had attempted to establish a fascist organization in this ountry.

There is no question that these attempts were discussed, were planned and might have been placed in execution if the financial backers deemed it expedient.

MacGuire denied [Butler's] allegations under oath, but your committee was able to verify all the pertinent statements made to General Butler, with the exception of the direct statement suggesting the creation of the organization. This, however, was corroborated in the correspondence of MacGuire with his principle, Robert Sterling Clark, of New York City, while MacGuire was abroad studying the various form of veterans' organizations of Fascist character.

Needless to say, the survival of America's democracy is not an automatic or sure thing. Americans need to remain vigilant against all enemies... both foreign and domestic.

The so-called opinion was "en banc"; i.e., joined in, was the unanimous decision of the court. The decision is unlawful on its face. If an entire Supreme Court of a state is "dirty", is that not newsworthy?

IF IT IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH THE FASCIST AGENDA IT DOESN'T HAPPEN.

A MEDIA CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE

Why did minnesota (LCD) create a second supreme court only a few years after the so-called opinion came down?

There is an instance in which an entire Supreme Court did "go down", the Nebraska Supreme Court circa 1939. How did the media cover that incident?

As I recall, the Nebraska justices took bribes in a tax matter. Not exactly a threat-to-the-elite issue, is it!

On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the United States
compliance with its enforcement of the Constitution, on
actually being a constitutional democratic republic?

Do you agree that an argument exists that a great many
"Americans" are terrified by the prospect of this country

MARCH 8, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 43/36; LETTER TO THE EDITOR

I have a bone to pick with the State of Minnesota.

The issue was created by the minnesota (lack of capitalization deliberate (LCD)) establishment.

Gov. Ventura ran as a Reform party candidate. I presume that means reform of government as reflected by the establishment.

Numerous attempts were made to give Gov. Ventura an opportunity to keep the onus where it belongs, on the establishment, by making the issue a transition issue.

I do not know whether those attempts were frustrated by members of the establishment who have surrounded Gov. Ventura, or whether he is ducking the issue.

Numerous attempts have been made to call Gov. Ventura's attention to the issue since he took office. Ditto frustrated/ducking.

The history of those attempts is set forth at the pi4c web sites and in numerous postings to Switchboard.com Town Meeting Boards, including those for each of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Today is the 43rd day of "The PonyTail Hunger-Strike for Justice". A physician advised me that "body shutdown" would commence after about the 7th day. Accordingly, I am more than a month into body shutdown. My 60th. birthday would be later this summer.

If a person considers an issue important enough to lay their life on the line for it, in minnesota (LCD), would that entitle the individual to the civility of a personal response from the chief executive officer of the state?

MARCH 9, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 44/37; Gap Widening

Webster's definitions of government include the following:

government:

3a: the office, authority, or function of governing;

5b: the complex of political institutions, laws, and customs through which the function of government is carried out in a specific political unit;

As applied to the United States, I trust all would agree that "governing" would mean according to the Constitution, all laws properly derived therefrom, and the common law not specifically abrogated by such laws.

Similarly, "political unit" must necessarily mean the Constitutional Democratic Republic known as the United States of America.

Standard political rhetoric characterizes elected officials as "public servants". Clearly politicians want the general public to believe the purpose of government is to SERVE the people.

Equally clearly, politicians have discovered the word "govern" and its definitions, and have found its terms and conditions far more suited to their natural inclinations. Again from Webster:

govern: 2: to exercise authority.
We have a government which governs.

We do not have a government which serves the people.

Would anyone dispute that the exercise of arbitrary authority is anarchy? The exercise of any and all authority which does not comport with the Constitution is arbitrary authority, even if it be the will of 98% of the people. That is the difference between a majority rule society and a society governed by a Constitution. Did not our founding fathers specifically seek to provide the few with the same protection from a tyrannical majority which the society as a whole sought from a tyrannical king?

Tri-partite system checks and balances theory tests date from as early as February 1985 when the issue was presented to the legislative branch (letter dated Febr. 5, 1985 to Messrs. Rodino and Dargen); and to President Reagan (letter dated Febr. 7, 1985).

The PonyTail issue was put directly on the desk of the Attorney General of the United States on: December 7, 1993.

The PonyTail issue was put directly on the desk of the Secretary of Treasury of the United States on: December 13, 1993.

Terms of settlement were tendered to the office of the President of the United States in December of1992 and The PonyTail Issue was put in the office of the Chief of Staff to the President of the United States not later than: December 19, 1995.

Stonewalling.

If it isn't consistent with the ruling class agenda, it doesn't happen.

No matter how legitimate and urgent the issue is, if it is contrary to the ruling class agenda, it doesn't happen.

Money talks. Those who have money regularly spend an evening in the Lincoln bedroom.

This is not to quarrel with political sorts hob knobbing with those who have already made political contributions, nor those who are good candidates for making such contributions. Campaigns are expensive. Mere survival always has a special place, even in politics.

It is to quarrel with making it a virtual condition of access to the bureaucracy.

Granted, giving the PonyTail access means settlement of the issue which in turn means funds will become available for facilitating change, change which would seek to level the playing field.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand their reluctance to create a forum for the issue.

In a Constitutional Democratic Republic, reluctance wouldn't have a damn thing to do with it.

In this society, it has everything to do with it.

I trust all remember the mal feasance, mis feasance, non feasance message. Arbitrarily WITHHOLDING a service from a citizen, be that citizen wildly popular or the most villified citizen of the society, is anarchy.

When there is a pattern of government arbitariness over a long period of time which serves to disproportionately benefit the elite of a society, the society is a fascist society ala the "uber alles", "the master race", "euthanasia" daily message.

Do the numbers not consistently show the gap widening!

Do you not agree that a systematic, methodical and calculated subversion of the Constitution, by any official sworn by oath to uphold the Constitution, would be impeachable conduct?

Do you not agree that if someone responsible for the impeachment process: a) was aware of the possible existence of such conduct; and, b) failed to ascertain whether or not it in fact existed, that such party joined in the behavior and thereby created a conspiracy to subvert the Constitution?

Do you not agree that if significant numbers of the general population are aware of the conduct, yet do nothing, they thereby embrace the conduct?

Do you not agree that if the foregoing is true, that any such society has no constitution?

MARCH 15, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 50/43; STAT

A recurring theme of the daily message has been the elitist nature of this society. Today's message was essentially completed on Saturday, and was envisioned as a one or two sentence food for thought message. Today's email included a stat which can not be ignored.

THE ORIGINAL MESSAGE:

Does anyone doubt that were a member of the elite to put an issue directly on the desk of two cabinet officers and in the office of the President's chief of staff, that the issue would be given a hearing?

In a heartbeat the elitist's issue would be given a hearing!

THE STAT:

WASHINGTON - The United States will soon be the world's largest jailer, surpassing Russia as the country with the highest rate of incarceration, a Justice Department report said Sunday. The number of American adults imprisoned has more than doubled over the past 12 years, reaching its highest level ever in 1998, with an estimated 1.8 million people. At the end of 1985, the figure was 744,208.

THE LINK: ANARCHY

Anarchy has also been a daily message recurring theme. Establishment anarchy! Establishment anarchy breeds citizen anarchy. Will government accept its responsibility for its contribution to the above stat?

Has government accepted its responsibility for its contribution for such matters as the Oklahoma City bombing?

Your attention is called to the March 9th. Daily Message which included the following:

"We do not have a government which serves the people.

Would anyone dispute that the exercise of arbitrary authority is anarchy? The exercise of any and all authority which does not comport with the Constitution is arbitrary authority, even if it be the will of 98% of the people. That is the difference between a majority rule society and a society governed by a Constitution. "

Near the end of the Bush term, Barbara Bush took a high profile stance that the problem of the poor was their lack of education. The PonyTail wrote to her: "Why don't you just spit in their faces?" I believe that is a direct quote. The letter also included a statement to the effect that the far greater problem of the poor was ala the THOSE WHO ARE IN CONTROL Daily Message, those who control the society for their own selfish interests, fascists, I believe they were called. The elitists.

MARCH 16, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 51/44; MEDIA PROPAGANDISTS

MEDIA PROPAGANDISTS

Today's message is a post in response to a Third Age Featured Member Letter by Bill Richmond prefaced by the statement:

Today, I would like to talk about an issue near and dear to my admittedly biased heart--society's tendency to "kill the messenger."

THE PonyTail RESPONSE POSTING

I've heard lawyers say that if they are allowed to define the issue, they win the debate by default. You prefaced your article by defining the messenger as the "legitimate news media". Your article made it clear you were talking about the grunts, the working stiffs, and to me this category includes the likes of Dan Rather, Barbara Walters and not just the lesser known. You singled out one individual, and that individual's journalism for fault.

Were that individual and that type of journalism the only fault of the media, I could heartily endorse your article. I can not. Your article totally ignores media at the institutional level. There are huge problems at that level. The evidence increasingly points to an institutional media which is first and foremost the propaganda arm of the elite who control this society. If a matter is inconsistent with the agenda of the elite, it is not "newsworthy". What is your explanation for the "conspiracy of silence" which has surrounded the PonyTail issue for twenty plus years? That agenda is not only inconsistent with the elitists agenda, it directly attacks the elitist agenda!

The PonyTail issue is not a complex issue. Anyone who can handle two sentences at the same time can understand it. Those two sentences are:

"It is equally apparent that he suffers from severe emotional instability which seriously impairs his professional judgment. Without the benefit of competent medical testimony neither the referee nor this court is qualified to arrive at a diagnosis or prognosis concerning the respondent's mental health."

Either the court could or could not make a diagnosis. It said it could not. Technically it did not because medically speaking there is no such thing as "emotional instability". That point is moot, however, because the action taken by the court, en banc, unanimously, is predicated entirely, 100%, on a gratuitous diagnosis by the court of "psychiatric problems". It is actually that ridiculous, bizarre, and self evident.

The issue has not been newsworthy. For twenty plus years it has not been newsworthy. The entire supreme court of a state is "dirty" and it is not newsworthy.

Readers can make a more informed judgment should they chose to by visiting a PonyTail Institute for Change website. Financial reasons have precluded a professional web site presentation of the issue, but more particulars are available at the following sites which I have personally constructed:

TEXT ONLY: "http://www.pi4c.com"

HTML & JAVA:

Site 1: "http://music.acmecity.com/radio/317"

Site 2: "http://www.erols.com/pi4ckbd"

The issue is basically and fundamentally a patriotic issue. The sites are admittedly bare knuckle, hardball. At this juncture there is no alternative.

Certainly there are good journalists, but where are the Charlton Hestons among the grunts, the working stiffs? (Another post re your letter cites the stand CH made against Time/Warner on the Ice-T cop killer rap issue.)

Until one of them summons the courage and integrity to stand up and take a stand, individual journalists in my mind are indistinguishable from institutional journalists.

Incidentally, the PonyTail has been generating a Daily Message for approximately six weeks the boiler plate closing of which is: "The Messenger is not the problem".

MARCH 19, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 54/47; THANK YOU MATTI GOLAN

Matti Golan, writing in the Israeli Globes newspaper about an Israeli politician:

... an individual who had the temerity to believe that, as of the day he became a public servant, the public should serve him and his economic needs.

He can still salvage some remnant of his human self-respect if he will but release Israeli society from his corrupt and corruptive public presence.

... realise that ... [the politician's party's] first duty is ... to Israeli society in general, and to its voters in particular. This duty obliges [the political party] ... to wash its hands, unequivocally and absolutely, of [the politician]

Those sentiments are fine poetry to me.

Those sentiments as they apply to the PonyTail issue:

The perpetrators have the temerity to believe that, as of the day they became a public servant, the public should serve the perpetrators and the economic needs of the perpetrators, should serve their private agendas.

They can still salvage some remnant of their human self-respect, and some renmant of respect for this society, if they will but release the world society from their corrupt and corruptive public presence.

American society must realize that its first duty is to those who have given that last full measure for liberty, justice and all the priciples of democracy, not only in this country but throughout the world. This duty obliges American's to wash their hands, unequivocally and absolutely, of those who are in control of the society.

Those who have followed the issue closely will know the sentiments resonate with me and perhaps even recall comments about the need for a Constitutional Amendment which would address this issue specifically. For those joining the Daily Message thread mid-stream, the Daily Message for February 1, 1999 proposes replacing the "elective" process for selecting public officials with a draft or lottery selection process as a mechanism for eliminating the sytem which allows powerful interests to control a supposedly democratic society.

Never before has this planet so urgently needed people with such a highly developed social conscience to maximize the effectiveness of their efforts.

I understand you have spoken out on a range of issues spanning nuclear arms to small arms. The former poses the greatest threat to this planet; the latter, has the greatest immediate negative impact over which we have a reasonable degree of control. Both are good choices.

Both also have the same cause: species homo sapien.

Would you Mr. Douglas have time, energy and resources to support an entity which seeks to eliminate the cause of both of those evils.

MARCH 25, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 60/53; HYPO

Let's see if a hypothetical won't jar our truculent bureaucratic friends (TBFs) loose.

For our hypothetical we shall assume a citizen living in a society with a tri-partite form of government, a society having three separate but equal branches of government for the express purpose of serving as checks and balances against abuses of power in any one branch of government. Our hypothetical further assumes such a checks and balances theory was deemed essential because of a history of abuse of the citizenry from their former system of government, oh, let's say the government of a syphilitic tyrant king.

The hypothetical shall further assume the citizen was grievously injured by one branch of the government.

Would anyone argue that it would be other than proper for the citizen to seek redress of his grievances from the other two branches of government?

Of course, any and all TBFs are free to spare us all an exercise of the obvious by simply doing that which it is their obligation to do, upholding the Constitution, that which they are sworn by oath to do.

Incidentally, today is the first day of the third calendar month of the PonyTail hunger-strike for justice.

MARCH 26, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 61/54; BILL OF RIGHTS/PRIVILEGES

Article I of the "Bill of Rights", uno 1, the very first one, grants to citizens the RIGHT "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".

Let's limit our discussion at the moment to two such "petitions", the petition on the desk of the attorney general of the United States, Jane Reno, and the petition on the desk of the secretary of treasury of the United States, Robert Rubin.

As you may recall, the petitions got on those desks by invoking the "supervisory authority" of the individual behind those desks.

The supervisory authority of the attorney general was invoked on December 7, 1993.

The supervisory authority of the secretary of treasury was invoked on December 13, 1993.

The matter is life threatening. Increasingly life threatening.

They know it is life threatening. They know it is increasingly life threatening.

It has been life threatening on other occasions. They knew it was life threatening on those occasions.

No response. Zero, none, not any. Unless you chose to include "coincidental" misfortunes.

Does the express right to petition necessarily imply a right to a response?

Bill of Rights, or Bill of Privileges?

MARCH 29, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 64/57; PERPETUITY

Our last message related to the 1st Amendment right to petition for redress of a grievance and the companion implied right of such a duly presented petition, namely the right to a response to the petition.

In other messages we have discussed the availability of  "access" to government by the elite.

A response to a petition for redress of grievances would be access, wouldn't it.

Without access, there are only privileges, not rights.

Unequivocally, government has obstinately refused the PonyTail access to government.

Would government grant anyone else who followed the same exact procedure access if the issue was at least fascist neutral? We can only speculate. The doubt raised is the real evil. Doubt is a cancer which erodes credibility.

And, it is not just the credibility of the US government which is attacked. It is the credibility of every Constitutional Democratic Republic, every government based on the US model.

No one would argue that granting access to the PonyTail would go a long ways towards erasing the damage which has been done. Would anyone argue that there is at least a possibility that if access is not granted before the hunger-strike runs its natural course, it may be impossible to ever erase the damage, that a credibility issue would last for perpetuity?

MARCH 31, 1999 HUNGER STRIKE DAY 66/59; RESPECT

I have more respect for a society which claims to have a more perfect society and is openly intolerant of those who oppose that society, than one which claims to be a tolerant society but kills those of its citizens who are a threat to the defacto form of government of the society!
